When Sports Illustrated questioned Andriy Shevchenko, “Do you feel the club has done in its power to support you this season? ” He bluntly said, “No”.

Jose Mourinho too more or less spoke on the same wavelength. He was quoted in The Guardian dated January 24th, 2007 saying, “Sometimes you kiss and sometimes you kick,” and added further, “What I do with him [Shevchenko] is what I do with every player. It doesn’t matter if he cost £30m, another £30,000. The players have to work and perform. If they work and perform I love them. If they don’t work and perform I hate them.”

Thirty-year-old Shevchenko speaking to the Sun magazine conceded that it was indeed a difficult season, a new club and a new life, for which he needs time to acclimatize to the new situation. He said, “Give me time and next season you will see the real Shevchenko.” He further added, “I just wish people would give me the time to acclimatize and to get used to it all, then you will see”.

The media in Europe has reportedly quoted Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho as suggesting that Andriy Shevchenko could be available for bidding this summer. The rumors were further fuelled by the President of AC Milan, Silvio Berlusconi who said that the AC Milan’s doors would always be kept wide open for their old guard. All these rumors irritated Jose Mourinho to the extent that Chelsea is planning to sue the newspapers that quoted him in links to the rumors.

Further the club’s website posted the following statement that said, “Chelsea and Jose Mourinho totally refute any of the comments that have appeared in European newspapers regarding Andriy Shevchenko.” Andriy Shevchenko driving the last nail into the rumors of coffin said that he does not want to go back to AC Milan and further added saying, “I want another chance with Chelsea.”

Thirty-year-old Andriy Shevchenko, the stunning forward became the second highest leading goal scorer of all time in European club competitions and for AC Milan where he played for seven years from 1999 to 2006.
